All change in the Emcore boardroom
In a boardroom reshuffle, Emcore has appointed Hong Hou, currently general manager of the company's Ortel fiber-optics division, as its new chief operating officer (COO).
42-year-old Hou replaces current COO Scott Massie, who has now left the company. With current chief executive Reuben Richards planning to become Emcore chairman following the company's 2008 annual shareholder meeting, Hou has also been offered the opportunity to become Emcore's next CEO.
After moving to Emcore from Sandia National Laboratories in 1998, Hou was part of the team that launched the company's photovoltaics division, which is now expected to grow rapidly as multi-junction solar cells based on III-V compounds begin to take a share of the terrestrial solar power market.
Also departing the boardroom as part of the senior management reshuffle is Richard Stall, who was part of the Emcore founding team back in 1984. Stall, who has been serving on the Emcore board for the past ten years, will however remain at the company as its chief technology officer, executive VP and general manager of the solar power division.
"With the election of Hong Hou, the board will continue to have a strong technically-advanced director," Stall advised.
Like Hou, Stall was a member of the technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories, where he was responsible for the development of MBE technologies.
