US-based HBT epiwafer supplier Kopin has reported III-V sales of $ 9.1 million for the first fiscal quarter of 2007, up $ 0.1 million sequentially, but down $ 3.7 million year"“on-year.
"While sales of our III-V products were affected by industry softness in the first quarter, we expect our HBT product revenue to trend positively over the course of 2007, particularly in the second half of the year," remarked Kopin CEO John Fan.
He added that the company, which is currently in the process of installing additional manufacturing equipment at its Taunton, MA, facility and at its factory in Taiwan (see related story), remains on track to increase its production capacity by 50% during the second half of the year.
Kopin's total revenue for the recent quarter was $18.1 million, and it is on target to hit its top line guidance of $80-90 million.
US chip makers get Samsung winsUS-based power amplifier makers Anadigics and RF Micro Devices (RFMD) are producing modules for Samsung's latest phones.
Anadigics' AWT6277 module that contains InGaP BiFET technology is being deployed in the Samsung SGH-500. This handset is aimed at the European market and features a dual-face design offering a "multi-media side" and a "phone side".
Samsung's E250 slider phone that sports a camera and an MP3 player is using RFMD's RF3159 quad-band PA that is designed to support EDGE transceivers.
Veeco's K-series makes a big splashVeeco has revealed that its recently-released K-series reactors produced orders totaling $11 million in the first quarter of 2007. These orders came from high brightness GaN LED manufacturers in Europe and Asia.
The company has also named John Peeler as its new chief executive officer. Peeler, who succeeds Edward Braun, was previously a divisional president at JDS Uniphase.
