Asia's LED capacity build gathers pace

As Osram breaks ground at its new factory in Penang, unexpectedly high LED demand drives Showa Denko's expansion plans, and Chinese start-up HC Semitek commissions its epitaxy gear.

Showa Denko will expand its capacity to make GaN-based blue LEDs to 200 million units per month, after receiving orders “far exceeding original expectations” in 2007.
