Quantum dot VCSEL reaches 40 Gbit/s
Fabless chipmaker says faster transmission speeds will bring optical technologies to the forefront in meeting the latest communications standards.
German startup VI Systems claims it has produced the first single VCSEL to achieve error-free 40 Gbit/s data transmission through multimode fiber.
Chief executive officer Nikolay Ledentsov presented 20 Gbit/s performance data at the Photonics West event held in San Jose, California, from January 24 to 29.
