Semiconductor sales buoyant in October, SIA reports
Semiconductor sales in October rose, with Europe seeing the biggest percentage change for month-to-month sales.
The Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) has reported that worldwide sales of semiconductors rose in October to stand at $21.7 billion (£13 billion), which represents a 5.1 per cent increase from September.
Global market conditions appear to be improving as semiconductor sales are increasingly driven by economic performance and sales in all geographical regions increased sequentially, George Scalise, president of SIA, said.
He continued, adding that October is an historically "strong month for the semiconductor industry as electronic equipment manufacturers ramp production for the holiday season. Inventory management throughout the supply chain has been very tight and this may extend the fourth-quarter build season by a few weeks".
For month-to-month sales in October, Europe saw the biggest percentage change, followed by the Americas and Asia Pacific.
Mr Scalise previously commented that PCs and mobile telephones represent approximately 60 per cent of semiconductor demand.
The SIA has represented US semiconductor firms since 1977 and claims to be the leading voice of the semiconductor industry.
