Smartphone global demand 'can be supported by TriQuint Semiconductor'
TriQuint Semiconductor can meet the challenges of the smartphone sector, in particular with its GaAs-based technology, one director at the firm has said.
TriQuint Semiconductor can help with the global demand of smartphones which require multiple power amplifiers to meet the various spectrum requirements of each country, it has been reported.
Shane Smith, senior director of marketing for mobile devices at TriQuint Semiconductor, stated that the demand for highly efficient amplifiers in order to extend battery life means that the features of gallium arsenide (GaAs) technology from the company have proved beneficial.
GaAs and other compound semiconductors "have successfully fulfilled the challenging performance requirements under extreme operations", he stated.
Mr Smith explained: "Given the size and performance requirements of smartphones, the inherent properties of compound semiconductors are in an excellent position to meet the needs of this rapidly growing market."
Currently, six power amplifiers are currently required to be purchased by customers because of the five bands of wideband code division multiple access with enhanced data rates for GSM Evolution.
In 2010-11, TriQuint s customers will be able to buy one power amplifier module with the same functionality.
TriQuint Semiconductor recently announced that its CuFlip shipments have reached 100 million units.
