RFMD's PowerSmart platform 'will see significant customer adoption'
The newly revealed PowerSmart platform for RFMD reduces board space by more than 40 per cent and will prove popular with customers, it has been suggested.
RF Micro Devices (RFMD) has announced its PowerSmart power platforms which feature a "revolutionary" Configurable Power Core to leverage industry-leading functional efficiency.
A new generation of smartphones and internet devices require three or more bands of 3G or 4G and the PowerSmart platform delivers leading processing of all cellular communications modulation systems.
All required switching and signal conditioning functionality are included, enabling smartphone manufacturers to access a single, scalable source for the entire cellular front end.
President of RFMD s cellular products group Eric Creviston said: "We anticipate significant customer adoption this year as PowerSmart enables global 3G [and] 4G penta-band implementations with product footprints that are smaller than those of triple-band solutions."
He added that the PowerSmart - which reduces board space by more than 40 per cent - processes cellular modulations at the industry s lowest total cost of ownership and with "superior" energy efficiency.
RFMD also reported that it has started high-volume production of its RF720x WCDMA/HSPA+ power amplifiers (PAs) which implement band and mode-specific front-end architectures.
The PAs accommodate all WCDMA/HSPA+ bands.
