About POWERHOUSE Solar Shingles
Unveiled in 2009, the DOW(TM) POWERHOUSE(TM) Solar Shingle installs and performs like a standard asphalt shingle while harnessing the power of the sun to offset a portion of a home's energy usage. Dow's Solar Solutions (DSS) technology uses a cost-effective and durable PV material called CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium diSelenide). The unique product design has similar reveal, weight, and installation practices as an asphalt shingle and also generates electricity. Electrical circuitry is integrated into each shingle and the shingles are connected by wireless plug-style connectors. The technology blends form and function, aesthetics and performance into a solar solution that is accessible and affordable for homeowners.
The DOW POWERHOUSE Solar Shingle was named one of the "50 Best Inventions of 2009" by Time magazine, and is expected to be available in 2011.
