Economy of scale 'to drive down LED prices'
LED development in India is likely to push down the cost of production and purchase.
Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) will likely become cheaper in India over the coming months due to an economy of scale as more items are produced, it has been claimed.
Cary Eskow, director of LightSpeed - Avnet Electronics Marketing s solid-state lighting and LED unit - said in an interview with the EFY Times that the introduction of low-cost production processes due to a growing demand for these products will make LEDs more economically viable for manufacturers and consumers in the long run.
She stated: "Energy costs are at a premium, this will only worsen, thus promoting low-energy lighting. Ecological concerns are becoming more important and the fact that LEDs - unlike tubelights - have no mercury is the key."
Digitimes also recently reported the LED market is set to flourish in Taiwan in the months ahead, with Philips Taiwan general manager Edward Po claiming his company looks set to quadruple its sales of LEDs during 2010.
