Identity of Bourne Technology winner is Bridgelux

LED chip manufacturer Bridgelux may need a larger shelf with another award in 2010, this time from El Dorado Ventures.

The’ Bourne Technology Award’, presented by El Dorado Ventures recognizes companies that develop and deploy unique technology with demonstrated customer impact. The award is named for Steve Bourne, Chief Technology Officer of El Dorado Ventures, who is known for his work on designing the UNIX command language known as the “Bourne Shell.”

In his award presentation to Bridgelux, Bourne noted that the company had pioneered significant innovations in the chip layer, wiring patterns and packaging that drive down the cost and improve the energy efficiency of LED lighting systems.

“Bridgelux has made significant technical advances,” said Bourne. “They have brought to market innovative lighting solutions using leading-edge technology to reduce energy consumption while improving lighting quality.”

With more than 275 patent applications filed or granted worldwide, Bridgelux is the only vertically integrated LED manufacturer and developer of solid-state light sources that designs its solutions specifically for the lighting industry.

“We thank Steve Bourne and El Dorado Ventures for their support of the development of Bridgelux’s industry-leading technology,” said William Watkins, CEO of Bridgelux. “It means a great deal to the Bridgelux R&D team to receive this recognition and validation.”

Bridgelux’s LED Array products range from 240 to 4500 lumens and enable the replacement of many high-volume conventional light sources. They are produced using proprietary technology at the EPI, chip and packaging level and claim to enable the industry’s lowest thermal resistance with excellent color control and consistency in an easy to use plug and play product.
