Nichia to Start Sample Shipments of Green Laser
Green laser diode claimed to have a lifetime of 10,000 hours
Nichia which has succeeded in developing a green GaN-based laser diode, will start shipment of samples from August 2010. The firm claims that the diodes have an estimated lifetime of 10,000 hours under 50mW in continuous-wave operation at a temperature of 60°C.
The green semiconductor laser diode has a number of advantages over conventional light sources. In the case of pico projectors, these include small power consumption and volume, high efficiency, and low cost.
