Oclaro Showcases New Range of Full-Band Tunable XFP Transceivers
The firm will demonstrate its comprehensive tunable solutions for 10 and 40Gb/s plus a clear path to 100Gb/s at the 36th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication.
Oclaro, a tier-one provider of innovative optical communications and laser solutions, has announced that it will be demonstrating its new TL8800 full-band Tunable XFP transceiver at the 36th European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC) on September 19-23 in Turin, Italy.
With the addition of the TL8800 range of full-band Tunable XFP transceivers and a focus on vertical integration, Oclaro is emerging as the price-volume leader for 10Gb/s tunable modules.
"Through Oclaro's InP (Indium Phosphide) Core Technology, we continue to define the highest levels of photonic integration into our tunable products," said Adam Price, Executive VP and Division Manager at Oclaro. "Tunable XFP is just the first step on our high density roadmap. Beyond scaling the Tunable XFP product to high volume manufacture with our proven world class operations organization, Oclaro is readying itself to be a market driver with next generation tunable products."
The Tunable XFP product leverages Oclaro's in house expertise at every level, from optical chip design and manufacture, TOSA and ROSA packaging and transceiver assembly and test. The company has traditionally disrupted the market by delivering customer value in small scale, high performance 10Gb/s transmitters based on InP MZ modulator technology.
This has been further strengthened over the last several years as cost, size and power have become critical customer requirements. Being able to uniquely drive the market need, Oclaro is striving to secure a large share of the important 10Gb/s Tunable 300pin market. The Tunable XFP builds on this strong foundation to provide customers with this universal DWDM 10Gb/s format for the future.
The TL8800 Tunable XFP joins Oclaro's highly successful range of tunable components and modules such as the TL5000 ITLA tunable source, TL7000 TTA transmitter, and the TL9000 TSFF 300pin Transponder. The new Tunable XFP product platform enables customers to quickly and easily consolidate their DWDM 10Gb/s optics onto one format, as opposed to having to split between 300pin and fixed wavelength XFP solutions depending on the performance required. Variants will cover a range of Tx chirp, Rx options, C and L band coverage and enhanced performance for challenging optical and environmental operation.
As part of its overall Transmission strategy, Oclaro recently invested in ClariPhy and acquired Mintera Corporation. These two moves are enabling the company to enhance its 10Gb/s module performance, continue developing winning solutions for the 40Gb/s and 100Gb/s markets, and be a leading supplier that can deliver cost savings, flexibility, manufacturing capacity and faster time-to-market.
