Formosa Epitaxy LED Wafer Plant Operational
The Taiwan-funded mainland plant in Yangzhou currently accommodates 25 MOCVD reactors. The plant specializes in LED manufacturing for backlighting, consumer electronics and general lighting.
A plant in Yangzhou invested by Taiwan LED locomotive Formosa Epitaxy formally began operations on December 18, 2010.
The new plant has registered capital of about CNY 600 million, with first-phase investment of CNY 1.2 billion, and mainly specializes in the production of LED wafers that are mainly used in flat-panel TVs, consumer electronics, and lighting.
Twenty-five MOCVD reactors have been installed, and the number is expected to reach 50 by the end of 2011. At that time, the plant will become the largest Taiwan-based LED wafer plant in Mainland China. The local governments in Mainland China granted 40% to 60% subsidies to the equipment purchase and the city government of Yangzhou offered subsidies of about 52% of the total investment.
Wan Dianfu, the chairman of the Shenzhen LED industry federation, disclosed that the plants in mainland currently planned to import about 1,466 MOCVD tools. This is equivalent to the total imported worldwide in 2006.
