Luminus Big-Chip LEDs Power Aiptek V50 Projector

Luminus will be demonstrating the new Aiptek PocketCinema V50 at CES, January 6-9 in the Central Tower at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Luminus Devices, a developer and manufacturer of high light output, “big-chip” LEDs, is powering Aiptek’s new PocketCinema V50 Projector.

The PocketCinema V50 Projector is one of the world’s smallest projectors enabling instant projection anywhere for business presentations, photo sharing with family and friends and gaming. It combines DLP Optical Technology with Luminus’ SBT-16 LED pico-projection chipset for sharp and rich image quality. The SBT-16 chipset is designed specifically for hand-held projectors that use micro-displays ranging from “0.2 to 0.45” with individual red, green and blue LEDs.

The V50’s 848 x 480 (WVGA) resolution enables image projection up to 85 inches from iPods, digital cameras, camcorders, mobile phones, PCs or notebooks and gaming consoles. The built-in reader is compatible with an extensive list of business and multimedia file formats, including 720p high-definition video, allowing immediate projection of presentations or movies without having to convert files. In addition, the V50 offers a battery life of up to 2 hours.

“The new V50 PocketCinema Projector featuring big-chip Luminus LEDs is the industry’s perfect solution for instant imaging and projection for business and consumer environments,” said Julie Lin, senior manager, marketing and sales, Aiptek. “The improved image resolution and built-in functionality to make the projector compatible with wireless devices improves the viewing experience because they are easy-to-use by consumers and affordable.”

“The V50 is one the world’s most versatile pocket projection systems, making it ideal for business presentations and on-the-go gaming and picture and video sharing,” said Stephane Bellosguardo, director of product marketing, display business group, Luminus Devices. “Luminus’ SBT-16 LEDs are ideally suited for palm-size projectors such as Aiptek’s V50, providing a high brightness level as well as high efficiency to maximize battery life.”

Luminus will be demonstrating the new Aiptek PocketCinema V50 at CES, January 6-9 in the Central Tower, Suite #450 at the Las Vegas Hilton.

Aiptek was founded in 1997 and has been a leader in Pocket DV technology for more than 10 years. In 2000, when Aiptek launched the World’s first ever pen type digital camera, it quickly gained worldwide recognition. The company also introduced the World's first commercially available Pico Projector in 2009, and the first consumer based 3D-HD Camcorder in 2010.

Luminus Devices develops and manufactures high performance solid-state light sources – big-chip LEDs - for a variety of lighting applications. Its headquarters and primary manufacturing facilities are located in Billerica, Massachusetts, U.S.A.
