Modulight Extends Fiberlight Laser Portfolio

The standard fiber coupled lasers vary from 635 to 1550nm and have an improved coupling efficiency and detachable fiber as a new feature.

Modulight has designed new products for its “FiberLight” family addressing both, power and functionality requirements of medical, defense and industrial markets.

Applications suited to the devices include display and projection for visible lasers. The new platform has an improved coupling efficiency combined with robust mechanical design, and detachable fiber as a new feature.

The FiberLight product family comprises all the fiber coupled laser array products of Modulight, based on one and two laser arrays. Currently, the following wavelengths and power levels are available as standard products:

Wavelength (nm)               Power, single array (W)                                      Power, double array (W)

635                                                               3 or 5                                                           7

650                                                               7                                                                     12

1470                                                            15                                                                  30

1550                                                            15                                                                  25

Typical configurations include a thermistor for temperature monitoring and a female SMA-905 connector designed for 400 micron core NA=0.22 fiber. Other fiber diameters and additional features including monitoring photodiode, fiber sensor, and aiming beam are also available.

Tommi Hakulinen, product engineer responsible for Modulight's fiber coupled products commented, “Improved FiberLight platform along with recent developments in our laser bar products form a product line that is competitive in various markets such as: medical, research, defense, and industrial applications. These upgrades in performance and features of FiberLight platform put us to the forefront of the fiber coupled laser array technology in the visible red and eye-safe long-wavelength laser diodes.

“We have also focused on streamlining the manufacturing chain and pushing down the cost despite of added features and higher output power and efficiency. Along with the FiberLight platform we are making constant improvements on both, array and multiple single-emitter based fiber coupled lasers, to accommodate needs in a range applications from laser projection to surgery and illumination,” concluded Hakulinen.
