Oclaro Hits 7W with 808nm Single Emitter Module

Oclaro, Inc., a provider of optical components for industrial applications, today announced a powerful 7W 808nm single emitter pump module that features industry-leading reliability.

The fully-qualified single emitter module, which will be showcased in Oclaro's booth at Photonics West, has been specifically designed to meet the increased power and reliability demands of Nd:Yag solid state lasers used in the material processing and medical markets.

The new un-cooled single emitter pump module includes the latest-generation multimode pump laser chip from Oclaro's leading-edge Zurich facility. The module delivers a minimum of 7W from a 200um core fibre at exceptional reliability, upgraded by 1W from the previous module version. The module includes a 808nm laser chip that has undergone a rigorous 5000h accelerated life test under various test conditions and proved reliable when operating at increased power conditions reaching life-times of more than 200'000hrs MTTF.

"Our new single emitter modules allow customers to upgrade their existing systems with increased power and reliability without the prohibitive cost of changing pump source footprints and internal design configurations," said Yves Le Maitre, Executive Vice President and Division Manager at Oclaro. "This will enable customers to quickly and cost-effectively get to market with higher-performing products and underscores Oclaro's commitment to continually achieve higher levels of performance and functionality."

The new 808nm module is built on the same hermetically-sealed package platform for single emitter fiber laser pump modules, which enables high-volume, scalable and cost-effective manufacturing. Devices are also available as a chip-on-submount or chip-on-C-Mount. The new 808nm products are available today and are in full volume production
