Samsung Electronics Co., the world's largest flat screen TV maker, unveiled Thursday the world's first three-dimensional (3D) full high-definition (HD) televisions using light-emitting diodes (LED), as the company targets to sell 2 million units of 3D TVs worldwide this year, the company said.
"We are very pleased to introduce the world's first 3D, full-HD, LED TV to our consumers, which will offer a totally new viewing experience," Yoon Boo-Keun, president of Samsung Electronics' display division, said in a statement.
The company revealed the 7000 and 8000 series, each measuring 26.5 mm and 23.9 mm, respectively, that come in two different sizes of 46 inches and 55 inches, which are also equipped with technology that are compatible with 3D movies, TV shows, and video games, it said.
In particular, the new TV line contains Samsung's proprietary " 3D Hyperial Engine," which automatically adjusts the color, brightness, and motion to the highest-quality, according to the company.
Samsung also said its newest 3D, full-HD LED TV products are capable of converting 2D content into 3D images with just one click of a remote controller, while offering Internet connectivity and better energy-efficiency as well.
Samsung's global market share in the overall TV market exceeded 20 percent last year, as the 3D TV market is expected to grow into an estimated 17 billion U.S. dollar industry by 2018, according to market reports.
