JDSU 'will expand communications test solutions market presence'

JDSU is to expand its LTE/4G presence after the expected acquisition of Agilent's Network Solutions communications test business.
JDSU has announced it is set to acquire Agilent s Network Solutions communications test business, including the 4G network deployment and verification products, in order to expand its communications test standing.

The deal - for $165 million (£105 million) in cash - will help JDSU to expand its 4G/Long Term Evolution (LTE) solutions market presence, backed by demand from wireless service providers to upgrade such technology.

Network equipment manufacturers also require the technology to be upgraded as the uptake of smartphones, notebooks and portable readers continues.

Higher bandwidth can be provided by LTE, with more than 50 wireless service providers across the globe revealing plans to deploy LTE.

Tom Waechter, president and chief executive officer of JDSU, said: "This acquisition establishes JDSU as a market leader in wireless test instruments and systems and enables us to provide customers with new innovative LTE solutions as they deploy this next-generation mobile data technology."

A focus on innovation was recently cited by JDSU as one reason why its revenue for the second fiscal quarter ended January 2nd 2010 had increased.ADNFCR-2855-ID-19613029-ADNFCR
