Golden-i wins “Best in Show” award for Kopin

At the World Future Society’s Annual Conference, Golden-i which uses Kopin’s III-V compound semiconductor HBT technology, was recognised as leading product innovation at International Futurists Conference.

Kopin Corporation’s Golden-i, the hands-free cloud computing headset in development with Motorola Solutions, has captured the “Best in Show” and “Most Buyable” awards of the inventions showcased at Futurists: BetaLaunch.

This was the premier launch event for cutting-edge technology from the world’s future thinkers. The Golden-i headset was also voted by attendees as the invention that “makes me feel like I’m in the future, now!”

“We are thrilled and honoured that Golden-i has been recognised with these awards by the World Future Society and its members,” said Kopin President and Chief Executive Officer John C.C. Fan. “With a 15-inch virtual screen image that is controlled by voice and head motion, the compact hands-free Golden-i headset is the ultimate mobile computer! From the automobile industry to the energy market, from industrial design to mobile gaming, we believe the possibilities and applications for Golden-i are boundless.”

“The ubiquity of network connectivity has resulted in an ‘everyone and everything connected world’ – a fabric by which we are all connected resulting in crowd-based collective intelligence,” said Tom Bianculli, Senior Director, Emerging Business, Chief Technology Office, Motorola Solutions.

“We have seen user interfaces migrate from textual to graphical and now to natural utilising gestures, speech recognition and a blending of the digital and physical worlds by leveraging augmented reality to quickly and simply provide end users with the right information at the right time. We believe Golden-i is uniquely positioned to capitalise on this confluence of technology trends in a way that will revolutionise how field service and public safety workers get access to better, faster situational awareness.”

Kopin says its voice-activated, wireless, hands-free Golden-i mobile computing headsets, power-efficient, ultra-small liquid crystal displays and HBTs are revolutionising the way people around the world see, hear and communicate.

Kopin has shipped more than 30 million displays for a range of consumer and military applications including digital cameras, personal video eyewear, camcorders, thermal weapon sights and night vision systems. The innovative Golden-i computing headsets are generating strong interest in industrial, medical, military, homeland security and utility applications.

The Company’s unique HBTs help to enhance battery life, talk time and signal clarity, and have been integrated into billions of wireless handsets as well as into WiFi, VoIP and high-speed Internet data transmission systems. Kopin’s proprietary display, Golden-i and III-V technologies are protected by more than 200 global patents and patents pending.
