Odersun awarded with Red Dot Award for design

The interactive “Solarmodule-Designer” tool is designed to make it easier for architects, façade engineers and builders to customise configuration of CIS solar modules.

The Solarmodule-Designer is an online configuration software tool, which enables interactive design of an Odersun’s customised solar module for building integrated photovoltaics (BiPV). This free of charge tool has been online on Odersuns Website since May and has been recently awarded with the prestigious red dot design award for communication design.

The online tool and its iPad app have been developed by Odersun AG and the German design network Plural, Kilian Krug and Markus Lerner. Addressing architects, façade engineers and builders, the tool enables an easy, interactive and customised configuration of solar modules in terms of form, size, appearance, build-up and electrical connection. The solar module, as designed by the user, can be exported as a PDF or a CAD file for direct integration into architectural designs.

“There is some belief that solar modules are not fit for building integration, as they are supposedly unattractive and not flexible enough in size, form, material and design. The Odersun Solarmodule-Designer finally breaks this paradigm,” says Hein van der Zeeuw, CEO of Odersun AG. “We wanted to convey highly complex technical information about the customisation of our products in a comprehensible and practical way. The Solarmodule-Designer did the job for us. We are very proud of the recognition, which both the application and its designers received.”

The Red Dot is one the largest and most prestigious international design competitions. In a selection process that lasted several days, 15 internationally renowned design experts judged every single project of thousands of entries from 40 countries.

Odersun AG designs and manufactures customised solar products using a proprietary, worldwide patented, thin-film CIS technology. Its manufacturing process enables the company to produce solar cells that can be assembled into solar modules of virtually any size, form, design or any power, in flexible glass packaging. This adaptability is decisive for applications of BiPV.
