Restructure boosts Osram’s speed and efficiency

The firm has merged the Consumer and Professional Lighting segments into a single entity; this should enable Osram to enter into product development with its customers at an earlier stage.

The lighting market is undergoing fundamental change worldwide. In particular, LEDs are driving forward the technological change. This results in significantly shorter innovation and development cycles as well as production phases.

Osram’s organisational advancement is aimed solely at these changes. “We will be faster, more effective, and more efficient and in future will be able to combine technology with customer demands even more rapidly”, said Martin Goetzeler, Chief Operating Officer of Osram AG. To that end, Osram formed the Business Unit General Lighting (GL) which became effective September 1, 2011.

The two Business Units Professional and Consumer Lighting have been integrated into the new entity. In doing so regional sales will also be transferred to the Business Unit. Full responsibility over the entire value chain from production, over suppliers to customers is the key principle of the structural change.

Core functions will integrate into one another faster, moving Osram and its technologies even closer to the customer – i.e. entering into product development with the customer at an earlier stage. Simultaneously, a platform for the growing solutions and service business will emerge.

Klaus-Günter Vennemann, until now CEO of Professional Lighting, will lead General Lighting. Christian Schraft, currently Head of the Business Unit Consumer Lighting will lead Corporate Strategy in addition to the newly created department Corporate Marketing.
