First quantum dot TV uses QD Vision's technology

Chinese TV maker introduces 55 inch quantum dot TV with full-gamut colour

Chinese company TCL, the world's third best-selling television brand, has introduced what appears to be the first quantum dot TV. The television uses quantum dots from the US nanomaterials company  QD Vision.

QD Vision's "˜Color IQ' quantum dot technology is claimed to be the industry's only optical component solution capable of delivering full-gamut colour displays.

TCL's  television is a 55 inch 4K UHD TV with a manufacturer's suggested retail price one-third the cost of comparable OLED colour televisions. It will initially be available in China. The TV is on display this week at TCL's IFA booth.

"Many TV manufacturers are launching 4K TVs this year. TCL's bold leadership recognizes that adding full-gamut color at an accessible price creates a really strong differentiator, and a superior value for TCL customers," said Jason Carlson, QD Vision CEO.

"We are pleased to extend our relationship with QD Vision to the exciting new 4K UHD world. The addition of QD technology to our 4K televisions will offer great value to consumers who want to enjoy the advanced picture quality with vivid colors and shaper images," said E. Hao, CEO of TCL Multimedia.
