Toshiba introduces SiC-based datacentre power supplies

98 percent efficiency claimed as highest for double-conversion UPS

Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) has announced a series of 500 and 750KA uninterruptible power systems (UPS) for datacentres designed with SiC power modules.

With over 98 percent efficiency - claimed to be the highest in the industry for double-conversion UPS -  the G2020 series is said to produce less heat, noise and interference, lowers cooling costs and saves energy as compared to the conventional UPS.

Jesus Penalver, product manager for the TIC Power Electronics Division said: "The future of power electronics is SiC power switching technology, with >33 percent higher junction temperature, higher switching speed, and extremely low switching losses."

The G2020 has a footprint 17 percent smaller than its G9000 predecessor and is up to 57 percent smaller than competing models, according to TIC.
