Ams Osram adds 920nm IR LEDs

News

920 nm wavelength provides compromise between sensor sensitivity and reddish glow

Ams Osram has introduced new variants with a wavelength of 920 nm for its well-known OSLON Black and SYNIOS P2720 Infrared (IR) LED product series.

The technologies are primarily used for biometrics, such as 2D face recognition, and consumer applications such as smart doorbells. Ams Osram says that brighter IR illumination at the optimum wavelength of 920 nm enables the IR camera to see a better image of a person by optimising the necessary compromise between sensor sensitivity and reddish glow.

The OSLON Black high-power infrared emitters have small housings with a base area of only 3.75 × 3.75 mm² for a high-density assembly. Further advantages include a high total radiant flux at 1A DC, low thermal resistance for operation at high ambient temperatures, as well as high-current DC operation.

The SYNIOS P2720 products have a low profile of 0.6 mm. They do not come with an integrated lens, but secondary optics are available for narrow beam angles.
