Celeritek Receives $8.5M in Orders for Handset Power Amplifiers

Santa Clara, CA. Celeritek, Inc. (Nasdaq: CLTK), a leading provider of GaAs radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communication applications, today announced it has received over $8.5 million in follow-on orders from a major US handset manufacturer.

The orders are expected to ship in calendar 2000. Dramatic growth in CDMA subscribers, which reached close to 50 million by the end of 1999 (driven by the newly available data applications), fueled the new orders. Orders were for three design-ins across subscriber platforms.

"We are proud to provide ongoing support to our customer s subscriber business. We view the increase in orders as strong reinforcement of our strategy to lead the market with cost effective 3.0V linear efficient power amplifier products," stated Bill Hoppin, vice president of semiconductor sales and marketing. "We are especially pleased to have been selected to support several sockets on handsets targeted for high volume, data-enabled, consumer applications. Celeritek s products are focused on supporting this market segment and it is satisfying to see results from this effort."

Celeritek believes many handset manufacturers are experiencing a rapidly growing and increasingly competitive market targeted to value minded consumers. Market leaders who address this market should benefit as consumer demand for high volume, value priced products continues its exponential growth.

"Further investments in our factory, augmented with the $27 million recently raised in a private placement, combined with strengthened relationships with our subcontractors have been an integral part of our increased capacity plans. We are happy to see the ongoing rise in orders from key customers to help us utilize this capacity, and support future expansion plans. We are continuing to anticipate needs in a fast moving wireless market and preparing accordingly," added Tamer Husseini, president and chief executive officer.

Celeritek designs and develops products using MESFET, pHEMT, and, most recently, HBT GaAs processes tailored to support high capacity broadband wireless applications. Celeritek is a leading provider of GaAs based RFIC for use in wireless voice and data applications. The Company s products are used worldwide by leading manufacturers of wireless communication systems.
