Altitun to Ramp up Tunable Laser Production
State of the Art Facility Will Help Meet Growing Demand
BALTIMORE. Altitun, a leading supplier of tunable lasers to the telecommunications industry, announced at the OFC show today plans to open a new manufacturing facility in Stockholm, Sweden.
The new facility will help Altitun meet the rising demand for tunable lasers.
Altitun offers a broad tunable semiconductor laser product line, for use primarily in DWDM (dense wavelength-division multiplexing) telecommunications networks. Tunable lasers are emerging as an alternative to fixed wavelength lasers in DWDM. In addition, they have important applications in wavelength routing and optical switching.
Altitun s new manufacturing facility follows a major product line expansion and the conclusion of a successful second round of venture capital financing. This expansion will enable Altitun to turn out tens of thousands of commercially viable tunable lasers a year. The new facility contains 7,500 square feet of class 100 and class 10 clean room space. The size of the facility will also enable Altitun to package their lasers in a high-class clean room, a rarity in semiconductor laser manufacture.
Lennart Ramberg, CEO of Altitun, said, "With this move we are literally taking tunable lasers out of the lab and into the real-world of manufacture and supply. This new state-of-the art facility will give us the ability to produce the highest quality tunable lasers under the most efficient manufacturing conditions, increasing both quality and production. The end result will drive down costs while maintaining and increasing the level of quality.
Altitun s new facility, located in Stockholm, will also house their European headquarters. The new building is being leased from the Canadian telecommunications company Mitel. It has 8,500 square feet of office space and 20,000 square feet of additional areas. Altitun expects to occupy the facility in April and turn out the first of batch of tunable lasers by the end of the year.

Secure Your Hydrogen Supply
A study supply of high-purity hydrogen is critical to semiconductor fabrication. Supply chain interruptions are challenging manufacturers, leading to production slowdowns and stoppages. On-site hydrogen generation offers a scalable alternative for new and existing fabs, freeing the operator from dependence on delivered gas.Plant managers understand the critical role that hydrogen plays in semiconductor fabrication. That important job includes crystal growth, carrier gas, wafer annealing, and in the emerging Extreme UV Lithography (EUV) that will enable new generations of devices. As the vast need for semiconductors grows across all sectors of world economies, so does the need for high-purity hydrogen.
Take control with Nel on-site hydrogen generation.
