Ortel Announces 10 Gb/s Laser for Metro Applications

BALTIMORE--(BUSINESS WIRE). Ortel Corp. (Nasdaq:ORTL) today introduced the Daytona laser, a 1310nm 10 gigabit-per-second (Gb/s) distributed feedback (DFB) directly modulated laser (DML) designed for Metro network, drop-side Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) and datacom applications.

"In Metro applications, the most critical requirements are low cost and high speed. The Daytona Laser delivers 10 Gb/s bandwidth and high performance for a significantly lower price," said Jeff Rittichier, Ortel s vice president of worldwide marketing.

"The price and performance of the Daytona laser make it an ideal solution for drop-side DWDM long-haul transport equipment, add/drop multiplexers in SONET/SDH links, next-generation datacom routers, and inter-office time division multiplexing (TDM) links."

Ortel s Daytona laser is a cost-effective 10 Gb/s digital transmission solution for Metro SONET/SDH and dropside DWDM applications up to 50 km. It delivers 4 mW average output power over an extended case temperature range of -40(Degree) to +80(Degree) C.

This 1310nm laser provides superior signal quality and distortion performance for clean open eye patterns in short and intermediate reach applications. With excellent RF return loss, this 10 Gb/s laser integrates easily with high-speed optoelectronics. In addition, because its form factor is similar to 10 Gb/s electroabsorption laser modules, Ortel s Daytona Laser is readily designed into today s 10 Gb/s system designs.

Ortel Corp. designs, manufactures and supplies advanced optoelectronic technologies that provide the critical bandwidth and two-way interactivity essential for robust telecommunications and cable television applications. Ortel s fiber optics increase the capacity and performance of fiberoptic networks enabling them to handle ever-increasing volumes of voice, video and data communication.

The company has headquarters in Alhambra, Calif., with international operations in Sweden, Germany, France, Singapore and China. For more information visit Ortel s Web site at http://www.ortel.com.

Secure Your Hydrogen Supply

A study supply of high-purity hydrogen is critical to semiconductor fabrication. Supply chain interruptions are challenging manufacturers, leading to production slowdowns and stoppages. On-site hydrogen generation offers a scalable alternative for new and existing fabs, freeing the operator from dependence on delivered gas.

Plant managers understand the critical role that hydrogen plays in semiconductor fabrication. That important job includes crystal growth, carrier gas, wafer annealing, and in the emerging Extreme UV Lithography (EUV) that will enable new generations of devices. As the vast need for semiconductors grows across all sectors of world economies, so does the need for high-purity hydrogen.

Take control with Nel on-site hydrogen generation.
