RF Micro Devices Offers New GaAs 3V PA Driver Amp

Source: RF Micro Devices

IC Features Low Noise, High Dynamic Range for Operation in DCS/PCS Bands and WLAN Applications

Greensboro, NC. RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today the introduction of the RF2367 -- a low noise CDMA/TDMA/GSM PA driver amplifier with a very high dynamic range.

The RF2367 has an overall frequency range of 150MHz - 2500MHz and is optimized for operation in the DCS and PCS bands (1700MHz - 2000MHz) for applications where low transmit noise power is of concern. In addition to its use as a DCS/PCS driver amplifier, the new IC can also be used for a variety of applications including WLAN or other wireless systems in the 2.4GHz ISM band.

Operating from a single 3V (2.5V - 6.0V) power supply, the RF2367 features adjustable bias current, a high intercept point and power down control. The device s performance at 1880MHz includes 21.5dB gain, +24dBm output IP3 and a noise figure of only 2.2dB.

"With the release of the RF2367, we believe we have met the market s needs for a broad range of PA drivers necessitated by varying system requirements and implementation methods," said Brent Wilkins, TDMA marketing manager for RFMD s Digital Cellular product line.

Manufactured using advanced gallium arsenide (GaAs) HBT process technology, the RF2367 is offered in an extremely small SOT23-6 package. The component is ready for immediate shipment from RFMD, priced at $0.50 in orders exceeding 10,000 units. Fully assembled evaluation boards are also available from RFMD.

RF Micro Devices, Inc., an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer, designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary RFICs for wireless communications applications such as cellular and PCS phones, cordless phones, wireless LANs, wireless local loop handsets, industrial radios, wireless security systems and remote meter readers. The company offers a broad array of products -- including amplifiers, mixers, modulators/demodulators, and single-chip receivers, transmitters and transceivers -- representing a substantial majority of the RFICs required in wireless subscriber equipment. The company s strategy is to focus on wireless markets by offering a broad range of standard and custom-designed RFICs in order to position itself as a "one-stop" solution for its customers RFIC needs. RF Micro Devices, Inc. is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol RFMD.
