VG Semicon Receives Contracts in Excess of $10M
Franklin, MA. Thermo Instruments Corporation (ASE-THI) announced that its VG Semicon subsidiary has received orders valued in excess of $10M from RF Micro Devices (Nasdaq. RFMD) for multiple units of its model V100 MBE system.
The V100 systems will be installed at RFMD s semiconductor fabrication facility in Greensboro, North Carolina where they manufacture HBT- based radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC s) for wireless communication applications such as GSM and PCS CDMA systems. RFMD already has multiple V100 units, and these additional systems will be used to satisfy the continuing strong demand from the handset industry.
The V100 MBE is the "industry standard" production unit for the GaAs epilayer used in the fabrication of GaAs microwave devices. VG Semicon will have installed over 45 V100 MBE systems by the end of 2000. "These additional orders from RFMD underscore the significant role this product and VG Semicon continues to play in GaAs technology enabling the performance and availability of a new range of wireless products" says Barry Howe, Vice-President of the Photonics Division of Thermo Instruments.

Secure Your Hydrogen Supply
A study supply of high-purity hydrogen is critical to semiconductor fabrication. Supply chain interruptions are challenging manufacturers, leading to production slowdowns and stoppages. On-site hydrogen generation offers a scalable alternative for new and existing fabs, freeing the operator from dependence on delivered gas.Plant managers understand the critical role that hydrogen plays in semiconductor fabrication. That important job includes crystal growth, carrier gas, wafer annealing, and in the emerging Extreme UV Lithography (EUV) that will enable new generations of devices. As the vast need for semiconductors grows across all sectors of world economies, so does the need for high-purity hydrogen.
Take control with Nel on-site hydrogen generation.
