ANADIGICS Introduces a Dual-Technology Reverse Amplifier for Use in Internet Enabled Digital Cable Systems

Warren, NJ. The ARA2000S12 combines GaAs and Si CMOS technology to deliver industry-leading performance for digital set-top boxes, cable modems, and IP-telephony systems ANADIGICS (NASDAQ: ANAD), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband communications solutions, today introduced a new high performance reverse amplifier for use in interactive digital cable terminals and IP-telephony systems.

The ARA2000S12 utilizes both GaAs and Silicon CMOS technology to provide industry-leading performance that exceeds MCNS/DOCSIS requirements for high-speed cable modems, CATV interactive set-top boxes, and telephony over cable systems. Featuring a three-wire serial to parallel bus architecture, the universal reverse amplifier is designed to be compatible with Broadcom(R), Conexant(TM), and Texas Instruments upstream modulator solutions.

"Building on our strong history of broadband communication IC solutions for the cable industry, we continue to introduce bandwidth enabling solutions that drive ANADIGICS progression along an aggressive path to integration," remarked Dr. Bami Bastani, President & CEO of ANADIGICS. "We are currently sampling this high performance reverse amplifier to the leading manufacturers of interactive digital set-top boxes, cable modems, and IP telephony systems and we expect this product to strengthen our leading portfolio of cable design wins."

"The universal design of this reverse amplifier provides a seamless interface with all industry-leading modulator solutions for use in digital interactive cable devices," explained Ron Michels, Vice President of Cable & Broadcast Products at ANADIGICS. "Leveraging our strong technology portfolio, the ARA2000S12 satisfies our customers needs for existing and emerging applications while providing an unsurpassed combination of performance and ease of use."

The ARA2000 performs reverse path amplification and output level controls using a single +5 VDC supply and saves power with amplifier shutdown in standby mode. The product s integrated step attenuator features a 0 to 56-dB range with 1-dB steps, which insures the ARA2000 s compatibility with all upstream modulators available today. The device is controlled using serial input, which simplifies board layout.

The highly integrated reverse amplifier delivers the best noise figure (17 dB, typical) and harmonic distortion specifications (-64 dBc, typical) available in the industry. This performance combined with accurate step sizes enable the ARA2000S12 to meet or exceed all MCNS/DOCSIS requirements, providing higher specification margins that offer cable system designers with greater flexibility for low-power products.

The ARA2000S12 is housed in a 28-pin SSOP and is priced at $2.85 in quantities of 10,000. Samples of the ARA2000S12 are available. The devices are manufactured at the Company s state-of-the-art facility in New Jersey and are 100% RF tested before shipping.
