High-Flux LED Traffic Signals Offered At Deep Discounts

Dialight/LumiLeds partnership slashes prices to accelerate conversions, paybacks

San Jose, CA. Dialight Corporation and LumiLeds Lighting, through a recently established joint marketing venture, will offer LumiLeds high-flux LED-based traffic signals at a 40% price reduction. The action is designed to stimulate conversions from incandescent signals and shorten the payback period on municipalities initial investment in the signals.

"Notwithstanding the economic benefits of LED signals, notably dramatic energy and maintenance savings, pricing remains a significant obstacle to adoption of the technology," said Gary Durgin, Dialight s vice president of marketing. The discounted prices we are offering not only make the technology more affordable at the front end, but also provide even greater savings over the long term."

Dialight is offering 12-inch red signals for $74.90 and 8-inch red signals for $49.90 in minimum quantities of 225 units. Smaller orders will be handled by Dialight distributors at $99 for a 12-inch signal and $66 for an 8-inch signal.

Both signals are fully compliant with the ITE VTCSH Part 2 and Caltrans LED specifications.

Mark Pugh, Signaling Marketing Manager at LumiLeds, explained, "These price levels can produce astonishing paybacks, in some cases less than one year, based on energy savings alone. Reduced signal maintenance can produce substantial additional savings. We can also provide assistance with financing and installation, which should prove extremely attractive to municipalities that are considering LED technology but concerned about how to pay for it."

Dedicated to developing solid-state lighting solutions, LumiLeds is a joint venture between Agilent Technologies and Philips Lighting. The company recently developed a revolutionary package of traffic signal components, high-flux LEDs that provide more than 10 times the flux of conventional high-intensity LEDs. Signals based on this advanced technology offer greater reliability, more uniform illumination, and a wider viewing angle than earlier LED signals. In addition to traffic signals, the company supplies LED lighting for the automotive and signage industries.

Dialight introduced its first LED-based traffic signal in 1994 and has since captured the largest share of the North American market. It offers red, green, and amber balls in both 8- and 12-inch sizes, plus arrows and pedestrian signals. The company also provides a wide range of signaling products for other transportation-related markets, including truck, bus, rail, and aviation. ISO 9001-certified, and a subsidiary of the multinational U.K.-based Roxboro Group PLC, the company has more than 60 years of experience in lighting technology and applications, including 25 years of leadership in LED indicators.
