RF Micro Devices Announces Production Orders with Sanyo

Volume Shipments Have Begun To This Major Japanese Handset Supplier

RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today that it has received production orders to supply power amplifiers (PAs) for Sanyo s latest dual band CDMA PCS handset. Sanyo s customers include Sprint PCS.

Volume shipments have begun and will ramp to a multimillion-dollar level this calendar year.

"This business relationship is an important accomplishment in RFMD s continuing effort to diversify our customer base in the Japanese market," said Jerry Neal, executive vice president of sales, marketing and strategic development for RF Micro Devices. Neal added, "We are pleased to supply our latest 3V GaAs HBT power amplifiers in these Internet-ready handsets."
Greg Thompson, director of worldwide sales for RFMD, stated, "Shipments have already started for this multimillion-dollar application. We believe the sub-assembly and contract manufacture markets in the Asia Pacific region represent a high growth area of our business and we plan to continue to expand our presence and support in Asia. Additionally, these production orders are particularly meaningful because we continue to believe the CDMA market represents a high-growth opportunity for the Company, and Sanyo is one of the leading suppliers of CDMA phones. We anticipate this account will become one of our top 10 accounts this quarter."
