Picogiga Purchases Three Applied Epi Production MBE Systems

Source: Applied Epi

St. Paul, MN – Applied Epi, Inc. has announced that Picogiga, Villejust, France, has ordered three of its new GEN2000 production MBE systems for delivery in 2001.

"We purchased the new GEN2000 systems in anticipation of strong demand for HBTs, which is a new line of products we are manufacturing to meet the demand for new generation cellular phones," said Lihn Nuyen, Chairman and CEO, Picogiga. "We chose Applied Epi’s new systems because they can simultaneously process seven 6" wafers within a footprint that’s much smaller than any other multi 6" production MBE system."

"Applied Epi’s GEN2000 systems are currently the highest-capacity, highest-throughput production MBE units in the world," says Tom Bird, Product Manager. "They are the first and only systems to integrate proven silicon manufacturing "cluster tool" concepts and architecture with MBE and UHV in the compound semiconductor industry."

The GEN2000 is designed to increase productivity about 75% and reduce cost per wafer by approximately 33% over any other production MBE system. It also incorporates Applied Epi components to optimize epiwafer and chip yields. Combined, the GEN2000 offers the best return on investment for fab lines, according to Bird.

Picogiga is a world leader in the production of compound semiconductor products for the electronics industry.

Applied Epi, Inc., a privately held company, is a global supplier of epitaxy equipment, solutions and services that enable the manufacture of compound semiconductors.
