Optoelectronics Customer Orders Five Additional NSX Systems from August Technology

Source: August Technology Corporation

Bloomington, MN. August Technology Corporation (Nasdaq:AUGT), today announced it has received an order for five NSX systems from the Company s largest customer, a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of optoelectronics. This is the largest single order of systems in the Company s history.

"The size of this order emphasizes the important role August Technology serves for this customer and the confidence they have in us to deliver and support our high-performance NSX inspection systems. This relationship will continue to enhance the long-term goals of both companies," commented Mayson Brooks, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

"Our applications engineers have developed inspection solutions for a variety of applications. This is a great example of a non-traditional semiconductor device that the NSX has inspected successfully due to its flexibility," Brooks continued. "Because optoelectronics devices are manufactured on wafers in similar processes as semiconductor-based devices, they are ideal platforms for inspection by the NSX."

Optoelectronics devices include such products as LEDs, lasers and photo detectors. According to the Semiconductor Industry Association, the optoelectronics industry is projected to grow 30 percent in the year 2001.

The NSX Series of automated micro defect inspection systems are used for 100% and sample-based inspection of active die area and bumps. Originally designed for inspecting traditional silicon-based semiconductors, the flexibility of the NSX Series has allowed it to branch into the inspection of similar devices such as optoelectronics and photonics, disk drives and print heads.
