Fitel Technologies Introduces New Line Of Distributed Feedback -DFB- Products

Clinton, NJ. Fitel Technologies, Inc., a leading supplier of pump lasers for the optical communications market, and it s parent company, The Furukawa Electric Co., Ltd., today announced the availability of a series of distributed feedback (DFB) laser diodes for wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission systems. The modules will be available on a sample basis beginning in July 2001, with full production capacity scheduled for the end of this year.
Fitel will premier the laser diodes during the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) to be held in Baltimore, Maryland July 9-12. The products will be displayed in booth #5130 of the Baltimore Convention Center.
The available products include a series of 1550 nanometer (nm) continuous wavelength (CW) and direct modulated (DM) DFBs for OC-48/STM-16 dense WDM transmission systems. The products are available from 10 to 40 mW. Fitel is also premiering a wavelength monitor integrated 1550 nm DFB laser for high-speed, long-haul transmission systems.
"These products are at the heart of optical communications systems," explained Gerry Bezems, VP of Marketing & Sales for Fitel Technologies. "By using our core competency in III-IV compound semiconductor technology, we are able to offer to the market a superior product for signal transmission."
Fitel Technologies and Furukawa have a strong history and expertise in developing and manufacturing high-powered pump lasers, and currently hold nearly 70% of the total market share for 14xx pump lasers. Furukawa plans to accommodate the growing DFB market by leveraging the production capacity at its facility in Chiba, Japan. Furukawa will use its current manufacturing infrastructure to ramp up production of the DFB products.
