Samsung is deploying ANADIGICS Tuner IC Chipset in New Digital Set-top Box

Warren, NJ. ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANAD), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband communications solutions, announced today that the Company has received production orders for CATV tuner ICs (Integrated Circuits) from Samsung for use in their digital set-top box.

Samsung s DVB- RC set-top box will utilize ANADIGICS ACU2109 upconverter IC, and ACD2202 downconverter dual synthesizer IC, to provide a high performance, double conversion RF tuner solution. "Samsung is one of the leading providers of digital set-top boxes to the worldwide broadband CATV market, and we are delighted to continue our partnership with them," reports Dr. Bami Bastani, ANADIGICS President & Chief Executive Officer. "As an established supplier of tuner IC solutions to the leading manufacturers of digital set-top boxes and cable modems, ANADIGICS continues to expand its global market presence, especially in the rapidly growing Asian market."

The ACU2109 is a monolithic GaAs upconverter designed to support the latest 256 quadrature-amplitude modulation (QAM) digital formats. This highly integrated, high performance upconverter provides the distortion and gain flatness required for simultaneous reception of 256-QAM digital and analog video signals, enabling increased channel capacity for CATV broadcast services. It will be paired with the ACD2202, which utilizes both GaAs and CMOS technology to provide the downconverter and dual synthesizer functions in a double conversion tuner.

"At Samsung we continue to supply cable providers with sophisticated, high performance digital products which offer consumers advanced broadband digital cable services," says Mr. Gyu-Hwan Choi, Manager Display Digital Division. "In selecting a tuner solution for this set-top box we evaluated many suppliers and ultimately chose the ANADIGICS tuner IC chipset, as it provided a high performance, low-cost solution, backed by the company s proven high volume reliability and production capabilities."

According to Ron Michels, ANADIGICS Vice President of Cable and Broadcast Products, this latest announcement underlines ANADIGICS expertise in tuner IC solutions. "We have leveraged our expertise in GaAs devices in order to develop cutting edge components such as the ACU2109 and the ACD2202, enabling Samsung to produce the very latest in set top box designs. As interactive content and the demand for broadband services have grown, our parts have become critical in ensuring ease of manufacturability by decreasing the amount of labor-intensive production alignments steps, while maintaining the highest levels of performance and reliability."
