Downconverter with Dual Synthesizer Enables Solutions for CATV, Video and Cable Modems

Warren, NJ. ANADIGICS, Inc. (Nasdaq: ANAD), a leading supplier of wireless and broadband communications solutions, has introduced the ACD2202, a Downconverter with Dual Synthesizer integrated circuit (IC).

Engineered to deliver superior performance at low cost for a variety of CATV, television and video applications, the ACD2202 leverages both GaAs (Gallium Arsenide) and CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) technology to offer a unique combination of features for set-top boxes, CATV tuners, and cable modems.

"ANADIGICS is committed to the broadband communications market, and our components are critical for the delivery of high-speed data and high-quality video to cable subscribers," said Ron Michels, Vice President of Cable and Broadcast Products at ANADIGICS, Inc. "The increasing breadth of our product portfolio supports two design approaches to meet the needs of the fast-growing set-top box, cable modem and tuner markets. Our PicoTuner(TM) integrated tuner products facilitate the design process, enabling manufacturers to bring full-featured products to the market quickly, and our component ICs, such as the new ACD2202, offer performance and flexibility to those customers who require customized solutions."

The ACD2202 facilitates the design of cost-efficient double-conversion tuners by integrating an LNA (Low Noise Amplifier), a balanced mixer, the active circuits for a local oscillator, and a dual synthesizer into one convenient surface-mount package. The double-conversion architecture eliminates the need for production alignment, and provides a flat gain response that enables cable operators to determine their QoS (Quality of Service) and to monitor their systems remotely.

Requiring only a single +5V supply, the ACD2202 provides 10dB of conversion gain, an 8dB noise figure and a local oscillator phase noise of -90 dBc/Hz (at a 10KHz offset), and has a typical total power consumption of 600mW. The integrated design significantly decreases the number of external components required for a complete solution, reducing the cost and complexity of the tuner. Specifically designed to support 256 QAM digital formats, the ACD2202 meets the requirements for CATV/TV/Video and Cable Modem data applications.

The ACD2202 is housed in a 28-pin SSOP surface mount package, and is priced at $2.25 in quantities of 10,000. Samples of the device are available now. It is manufactured at the Company s state-of-the-art facility in New Jersey and is 100% RF tested before shipping.
