RF Micro Devices To Supply GaAs HBT Power Amplifiers For Use In Ericsson s R520 and T39 Handsets

Greensboro, NC. RF Micro Devices, Inc. (Nasdaq: RFMD), a leading provider of proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) for wireless communications applications, announced today that it is shipping power amplifiers to Ericsson (Nasdaq: ERICY) for use in the Ericsson T39 and R520 series handsets.

The Ericsson T39 and R520 handsets are advanced triple-band GSM handsets (GSM 900/1800/1900). GSM is the world s leading air interface standard, and the T39 and R520 triple-band handsets can be operated in more than 120 countries and on five continents, including Europe, Asia and North America. Additionally, both handsets feature Bluetooth(TM) wireless technology and GPRS, which enables high-speed wireless Internet and other data communications. Wireless subscribers using GPRS enjoy faster data speeds, "always on" mobility and connection to multiple data sources around the world.

The RFMD(R) power amplifiers are GaAs HBT microwave monolithic integrated circuits (MMICs) that provide high efficiency in small, thermally enhanced, cost-effective packages.

Jerry Neal, executive vice president of sales, marketing and strategic development for RF Micro Devices, said, "We are pleased to have been selected by Ericsson to supply power amplifiers into these advanced handsets and look forward to the prospect of additional business in other products."

Joe Grzyb, director of RF Micro Devices power amplifier product line, said, "We believe RFMD s experience and leadership in the design and manufacture of GaAs HBT power amplifiers and our ability to support volume production contributed to Ericsson s decision to select our PA solution."

RF Micro Devices, Inc., an ISO 9001-certified manufacturer, designs, develops, manufactures and markets proprietary radio frequency integrated circuits (RFICs) primarily for wireless communications products and applications such as cellular and PCS phones, base stations, wireless LANs, and cable television modems. The Company offers a broad array of products - including amplifiers, mixers, modulators/demodulators, and single-chip receivers, transmitters and transceivers - representing a substantial majority of the RFICs required in wireless subscriber equipment. The Company s strategy is to focus on wireless markets by offering a broad range of standard and custom-designed RFICs in order to position itself as a "one-stop" solution for its customers RFIC needs. In the September 4, 2000 issue of Fortune Magazine, RF Micro Devices was ranked second among Fortune s "100 Fastest Growing Companies." RF Micro Devices, Inc. is traded on the Nasdaq National Market under the symbol RFMD.
