AIXTRON opens R&D-subsidiary in Hsin-chu's Science Based Industrial Park

Aachen, Germany and Hsin-chu, Taiwan. Aixtron is proud to announce the decision to open its new R&D-subsidiary in the Science Based Industrial Park (SBIP) in Hsin-chu, Taiwan on January 1, 2002. The R&D and Technical Operation will be located at Fl. 6, De Tai Technology Building, No. 8, Hsin-An Road.

Dr. Holger Juergensen, President of AIXTRON AG comments: "The R&D effort at AIXTRON is focused on enabling the Compound Semiconductor Industry to achieve its highest productivity while establishing production processes for their devices. The sales of these devices reached US$ 18.0 bil. in 2000 and is expected to show attractive growth rates over the next years. Our goal is to bring this level of effort into the SBIP by contributing with partners in the academic and manufacturing fields to promote the further development of Taiwan s Compound Semiconductor Industry (TCSI). The establishment of the AIXTRON R&D operation in the SBIP will certainly enable our customers to achieve an even higher level of development and growth, we are proud to be a part of that."

AIXTRON s mission in the SBIP is to perform Research and Development together with its Taiwanese partners in industry and universities. Mr. Bernd Wachtendorf, Manager of Technology Transfer at AIXTRON Taiwan states: "Our team has gained experience in successful collaborations with Taiwanese partners such as CSIST, OES/ITRI, NCU and industry. We are looking forward to many more projects for instance the upcoming collaboration on Tricent based Oxide deposition with NDL." Together with Dr. Christian Geng, General Manager AIXTRON Taiwan, Mr. Wachtendorf will coordinate the R&D projects with AIXTRON s Headquarters in Aachen, Germany.

Certainly, the convenient location in the Science Based Industrial Park will help AIXTRON and its representative Challentech to co-ordinate efficient co-operations with TCSI. Dr. Christian Geng is proud of his highly motivated and skilled team, the excellent team work with Challentech, and the powerful backup from AIXTRON s headquarters.

AIXTRON s market share as supplier for MOCVD equipment in Taiwan is estimated to be over 60%. Among its customers are UEC, Epistar, Arima, VPEC, Procomp, Highlink, Epitech, Tekcore, OIC, SEC, CSIST, FOREPI, NCU, Nan Ya, Advanced Epitaxy, OES, Kingmax, Chia Ta, Kopin Taiwan ...
