Thermo VG Semicon Unveils New Production Facility
Thermo VG Semicon has recently completed relocation to an all-new, high technology production facility. The new facility was purpose designed for MBE equipment manufacture and is located close to the original facility in East Grinstead, UK close to London s Gatwick Airport, providing easy access to major travel routes.
Finding justification for the move was easy. Over the past decade, production at the Thermo VG Semicon premises has rapidly increased due to large market share in production MBE for wireless applications and growth in emerging sectors of the semiconductor market such as phosphide epitaxy and opto-electronics applications.
This, coupled with a relentless desire to use the most advanced manufacturing techniques, prompted the decision to relocate. Parent company Thermo Electron Corporation has long recognized Thermo VG Semicon as a "flagship" business unit and so invested heavily in this technology upgrade.
To best facilitate the manufacturing process, the new factory was custom designed for Thermo VG Semicon. This allowed improvements in all sectors of instrument build and test procedures leading to a three-fold increase in production capacity. The new facilities include a large clean room for UHV component testing, a single large assembly and test hall for instrument assembly and also enhanced facilities to ensure the safest working environment.
An open plan office area improves communication and encourages employees to share ideas. A state of the art customer reception area with a viewing gallery means that customers see Thermo VG Semicon as a driving force in MBE from the moment they arrive.
The factory was opened by Marijn Dekkers, Chief Operating Officer of Thermo Electron Corporation.
