Cree releases 10 Amp Schottky rectifier
This new Zero Recovery(TM) 600 Volt, 10 Amp SiC Schottky rectifier is targeted for applications such as power conditioning for high frequency power supplies and power factor correction, as well as for power conversion in motor controls. The diode has been demonstrated to have a faster switching speed than comparable silicon devices at similar breakdown voltages. As the name Zero Recovery suggests, the SiC Schottky device has effectively no switching loss when compared to the silicon PIN device it would replace.
Chuck Swoboda, President and Chief Executive Officer of Cree stated, Our R&D investment focus continues to lead to the expansion of our product family. We believe our new Zero Recovery Rectifier is superior to existing silicon- based products presently available in the marketplace due to the faster switching capabilities of the device. We are also excited about migrating to the three-inch platform for these devices as we anticipate more usable die per wafer which should help us achieve more efficient cost performance characteristics.
In other news, the company announced that it has demonstrated a 600 Volt, 40 Amp Schottky rectifier utilizing a single SiC chip. As applications increase for higher power requirements, such as electric and hybrid vehicles, power supplies and power factor correction, higher power rectifiers will be important to enable such applications.
