Thales plans to commercialize its D-Light VCSEL-based parallel optical modules
The original design of the modules ensures low power consumption (below 2 W for a complete 8-channel link at 1.25 Gbit/s) and places D-Light products among the world?s smallest in their category (16 x 16 x 4 mm). D-light modules, based on 850 nm VCSELs and pin photodiodes, are suitable for board-to-board and intra-cabinet communications. A pigtailed version of the family enables placement anywhere on a board. The pigtail ribbon is connectorized with a MT-ferrule, which makes it compatible with any standard connectors.
Thales is among the world s leading providers of high-tech electronic solutions in three major markets: aerospace, defense and information technology and services. The group employs more than 65,000 people in 50 countries. Thales Research and Technology (TRT) is a world-class research and technology center employing more than 350 people at 3 different locations in Europe (France, UK and the Netherlands). TRT has a great deal of expertise in the fields of semiconductor lasers, high-power lasers, optical fibers, optical systems, and microelectronics, and has been involved in optical interconnects for more than 10 years.
