Kopin reports sequential revenue increase but still makes a loss
Net loss was $7.1 million in the December 2001 quarter, or $0.10 per share, versus a net loss of $9.2 million, or $0.14 per share, in the September 2001 quarter. Net income of $3.4 million, or $0.05 per diluted share, was recorded in the December quarter of 2000.
Full-year results for 2001 showed that revenue was $51.9 million, down 44% from $92.6 million in 2000. The net loss for 2001 was $22.7 million, or $0.34 per share, compared with net income of $13.7 million, or $0.20 per diluted share, in 2000.
III-V product revenue in the December 2001 quarter was $7.8 million, up 39% sequentially from $5.6 million in the September quarter of 2001, but down 57% from the $18.2 million recorded in the final quarter of 2000.
"Because of normal seasonal weakness, we expect the III-V business to be roughly flat sequentially in the March quarter and then resume growth thereafter," said John Fan, Kopin s chairman and CEO. "Continued advancements in our GAIN and InP product development should enable Kopin to increase its market penetration as next-generation wireless and broadband applications emerge. Kopin HBTs are now present in about 50 percent of all HBT-based power amplifiers sold worldwide for wireless handsets."
