GTRAN ships 40 Gbit/s InP ICs (Fiber News)
GTRAN (Westlake Village, CA) has begun shipping its first 40 Gbit/s components for SONET applications, including transimpedance amplifiers (TIAs) and limiting amplifiers. The devices are manufactured by foundry companies, including GCS, using GTRAN s recently released InP HBT process, which has achieved ft and fmax values of 150 GHz and 200 GHz, respectively. GTRAN s TIA achieves a transimpedance of 300 at a bandwidth of 45 GHz, operates with dual positive and negative 3.3 V power supplies and dissipates 150 mW. The company s limiting amplifier offers a bandwidth of 40 GHz, and achieves a differential gain greater than 30 dB with an input sensitivity of 10 mV. The device employs a single 4.2 V supply with a power dissipation of 500 mW. The first units of the limiting amplifier are available as surface-mount ICs in a leaded ceramic package to ensure easy integration.
