Uniroyal ramps capacity at high-brightness LED facility (LED News)
High-brightness LED manufacturer Uniroyal Optoelectronics has completed the expansion of its epitaxial growth facility in Tampa, Florida. Last November, construction began on the remaining 33 000 sq. ft of the 77 000 sq. ft plant, including space for an R&D section that is now also nearing completion. As part of the expansion, Uniroyal has bought three new MOCVD reactors for the manufacture of blue and green HB-LEDs. Two of these systems are currently being installed, while one is in the final phase of materials testing. The company says that one reactor is designated for R&D, while the other two will be used for manufacturing. Uni-royal now has six MOCVD reactors at this facility. "This expansion puts all the necessary components in place to facilitate the addition of MOCVD reactors as we move forward with our plan for increased capacity," said Robert Soran, president and COO of parent company Uniroyal Technology Corporation. "The exceptional brightness levels achieved by our current products have been achieved in less than two years since our facility began production. The addition of the R&D facility allows our LED scientists to further accelerate product improvements and new product development."
