NEC's spin-off takes shape (Asia News)
At the end of July, NEC s board of directors approved plans to transfer its compound semiconductor activities to a wholly-owned subsidiary, NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Ltd, which will be established on 1 October 2001. Through this move, NEC aims to enhance the competitiveness of its optical and microwave devices business by concentrating resources and speeding up decision-making processes. The new company, headquartered in Kawasaki, Japan, will have working capital of 10 billion ($80 million) and estimated total assets of 28 billion ($224 million).
