Agere undergoes internal reorganization (Fiber News)
Agere Systems is reorganizing its products into two groups targeting optical network equipment and consumer communications markets. Agere span off from Lucent Technologies earlier this year and is one of the few companies that manufacture both optoelectronic components and ICs. The company s optoelectronic portfolio comprises active components including lasers, modulators, amplifiers and transceivers, which are used in long-haul optical networks operating at 2.5 Gbit/s and above. IC activities make up 75% of its sales, primarily for communications and computing applications, and focus on silicon; GaAs IC manufacturing is outsourced (see Compound Semiconductor February 2001, page 88). Agere s new Infrastructure Systems group will consolidate its optoelectronics and IC activities. The Client Systems group will handle its wireless data, computer communications and storage systems business. In addition, Agere will combine the manufacturing and supply activities of its optoelectronics components and ICs in a new Operations group.
