Lumileds delivers 199lm/W with new Luxeon LEDs

News
Higher LED efficacy drives lower energy costs for on and off grid lighting

Lumileds has announced the Luxeon 5050 HE Plus, which is claimed to deliver 199 lumens per Watt and 746 lumens of high-quality light output while reducing application power consumption by 18 percent or more.

The new LED, which is designed for outdoor and industrial lighting. offers CCT options as low as 1800K and 70 or 80 CRI, making it suitable for on and off grid lighting solutions.

“Efficiency remains the key driver for outdoor and industrial lighting and the focus of our continuous improvement programs,” said Mei Yi, director of product marketing at Lumileds. “The efficacy gains achieved with our Luxeon 5050 HE Plus make it the highest-performing 5050 LED available today and these gains offer dramatic performance advantages for on-grid lighting and solar, off-grid, solutions.”

Lumileds says it as also lowered thermal resistance to an Rth of 1.1k/W so that smaller, less costly heatsinks can be used; and it has established narrower flux bin widths of 25lm to facilitate accurate system design.

Luxeon 5050 HE Plus joins a portfolio that includes Luxeon 5050 Round, Luxeon 5050 Square, and Luxeon 5050 HE. Both the HE and HE Plus parts have a square light emitting surface. The performance advances available in the HE Plus versions are also available in Lumileds SunPlus 5050 LEDs for the horticulture industry.
