EMCORE Expands Operating Management at its Datacom and Satellite Communication Divisions

SOMERSET, NJ. EMCORE Corporation (Nasdaq:EMKR) today announced the appointments of three highly experienced new directors due to significant demand in production volume at its facilities in Albuquerque. Gary Burdick has joined as Director of Operations and Howard Pollard as Director of Space Systems at EMCORE PhotoVoltaics, a leading supplier of advanced solar cells to the satellite industry. Terry Sullivan has become Director of Operations at EMCORE s MicroOptical Device (MODE) Division, the industry s leading manufacturer of Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Lasers (VCSELs), a key component used in multiple applications for advanced Internet and fiber optic communications.

"Both EPV and MODE are experiencing a period of exceptional growth in customer demand and high volume production requirements," stated Reuben Richards, President and CEO of EMCORE Corporation. "The combined experience and manufacturing expertise of these three directors will help lead EMCORE to its next phase of manufacturing expansion." Mr Burdick s primary focus at EMCORE PhotoVoltaics is to manage the division s manufacturing of multi-junction solar cells. He formerly served as Vice President of Solar Cell Operations at Tecstar s Applied Solar Division and was the Director of National Semiconductor s 6-inch silicon fab.

Mr Burdick s extensive experience also includes manufacturing positions with International Rectifier Corporation and Siemens Corporation in Germany, where he worked for 12 years.

Mr Pollard s responsibilities at EMCORE PhotoVoltaics include technical support, applications and project management, as well as overseeing all aspects of the division s space qualification efforts. He will also be the division s technical liaison to its customers in connection with the technical issues associated with the actual integration of EMCORE s solar cells into the customers spacecraft. Prior to joining EMCORE, Mr Pollard held a variety of managerial posts at Space Systems/Loral, where most recently he was Supervisor of Solar Array Electrical Design. Prior to joining SS/L in 1967, Mr Pollard was a technologist with Lockheed Missile and Space Company.

Mr Sullivan s responsibilities at MODE include the overall management of the division s manufacturing operations and facilities, with special focus on maintaining EMCORE s high caliber of quality control and the growing volume manufacturing of MODE s VCSEL-based product lines for the data communications markets. He brings 25 years of experience from Philips Semiconductor, where he served in various management positions in manufacturing and logistics. Prior to his tenure at Philips Semiconductor, he was Vice President of Quality and Strategic Operation for National Semiconductor s Dyna-Craft Division.
