Lucent Technologies is Named Siemens' Number One Supplier of Optoelectronics Components for Fifth Consecutive Year

Allentown, PA. Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) Microelectronics Group, the world leader in optoelectronics components for communications, today announced that Siemens AG s Transport Networks Group, a worldwide leading manufacturer of optical networking systems, has recognized Lucent as its number one supplier of optoelectronics components in 1999 for the fifth consecutive year.

"We ranked Lucent against the performances of some of our other major vendors in the areas of purchasing, logistics, technology and quality," said Harald Bachman, VP of purchasing with Siemens. "For the fifth straight year in a row, Lucent came in as the best vendor for optical components, proving to us their continued commitment of world-class support. We are currently working with all of our vendors as we set ever-increasing goals for even improved performances in the future."

Lucent provides Siemens with optical amplifiers, electro-absorptive lasers for dense wavelength-division multiplexing (DWDM) applications, optical receivers and high-speed digital lasers.
"We re pleased to be ranked so high by a leading worldwide communications systems provider as Siemens," said Dan DiLeo, president of optoelectronics products with Lucent s Microelectronics Group. "We look forward to continue being a valued supplier of Siemens year after year."

Most of Lucent s optoelectronics components used by Siemens will be manufactured in Lucent s next-generation facility located in Breinigsville, Pa., currently under expansion. The newly expanded facility, the industry s most automated and advanced, will produce a host of optoelectronics components and sub-systems including lasers, optical amplifiers, transponders, transmitters, receivers, transceivers, passive optical components and lithium niobate devices. The facility will be completed this month and operations will begin during the first quarter of 2000.
